Amtrak 4, the eastbound Southwest Chief, zips through East Darling on October 31, 1977. The original name was Walnut and later Winona. The railroad changed the name of the siding from Winona to Darling in November 1959. East Darling is at milepost 327 at an elevation of 6,200 feet. Leading the train down the hill is engine 501. The track has been climbing on a roughly 1.42% grade from near Angell (about five miles east) and will continue climbing until reaching Riordan at the top of the Arizona Divide. Disk 68
