From Black Butte the railroad take off across the shoulder of Mount Shasta. The highway drops down to Weed and then follows part the original logging line northeast. There are several forestry roads that lead to the tracks, but it takes awhile to get in and out of these locations. Since I was generally under a schedule I wanted to spend more time chasing trains than waiting for them so I would run ahead to the next easily accessible location which is the location of the old siding at Cougar. The siding was removed in 1965. Train WCEUE (Extra 9291 East) rolls north (railroad east) near Cougar on July 7, 1979. Disk 20
