SP train PTLAY has pulled a drawbar on the east end of the third car at Bealville on November 3, 1976. I got to Bealville as engines 8973, 8709, 8886 were setting out the bad order boxcar. |

Coming up the siding is Santa Fe train 963. Engines 5610, 5623, 5000, and 4576 help in getting the boxcar into the set out track.

Once the bad order car is out of the way, the train wastes little time in getting underway again. The engines are in run 8 as the train leaves the siding. In the 1940s and 50s the perishable traffic out of the San Joaquin Valley would have been on one of Santa Fe's Green Fruit Express trains. At peak season, the Santa could run five or six trains of ice bunker reefers a day out of the valley. This business declined with the advent of freeways and better service by truck. Disk 42 |
