North of Oroville, the Western Pacific was rebuilt to bypass the Oroville Dam project. The project started in 1957 and the first part of the project was rerouting the Western Pacific and Highway 70 around the construction site. The original railroad right-of-way was then used to haul rock to the dam site. The project was finished in 1967. At James the rerouted track loops around a big hill and then heads into the mountains. On June 1, 1978 train TOF is approaching James. Disk 25
