Southern Pacific Brine Train ROELE at Osino, NV

Southern Pacific Brine Train ROELE at Osino, NV

The level of the Great Salt Lake began to rise in 1982 and by 1987 had reached its highest lever ever recorded. Heavy rains raised the level of the lake so much in 1987 that the AMAX plant at Rowley, UT had to import ocean water. SP and UP operated a brine train from the coast to the Great Salt Lake. UP train ROELE (empty tank cars) rolls through Osino with engines 7546, 7521, and 9328 on September 15, 1987. It will be turned over to the SP at Elko and become train ELNKU for the rest of the trip to Newark, CA. Disk 29
