From Oakland the line follows the bay south to Fremont (mp30), turns east and climbs to the top of Altamont Pass (mp56) at 752 feet, then descends into the San Joaquin Valley. At Oroville (mp203), 203 feet, the line begins to climb at a steady one percent. After looping around the foothills, the line enters the North Fork of the Feather River and climbs to the Keddie wye (mp280), 3,227 feet, where the Inside Gateway joins the main line. The line continues to climb to the crew change point at Portola (mp321), 4,834 feet.
APOA2X departed Salt Lake City at 640AM yesterday with engines 3370, 3910, 3595, and 2401. It set out engine 2401 at Gaskell (mp509) for the OANPZ and arrived in Oakland at 640AM this morning.
SLOAZ met Amtrak 14 at Poe (mp235). Amtrak was detouring via the Inside Gateway due to problems on the SP. It was delayed 40 minutes at Kramm (mp214) when the GLNEST went into emergency going into the siding to let the SLOAZ pass. It met the MINPZ at Pleasant Grove (mp156). It left Stockton at 800AM with engines 3377 and 3341, hauling 37 loads and 10 empties, 3,638 tons, and was leaving Fremont.
XSTNP was at Stockton with engines 3718 and 3473 coupled to 90 empties, 2,797 tons. The crew was called for 1230PM. These cars came in from Turlock this morning on train STTUG powered by engines 790 and 794.

OANP departed Oakland at 100AM, picked up one load at Fremont, met the STMI and NPOAZ at Livermore (mp47), and APOA2X at Tracy (mp72). It picked up 30 loads and two empties at Stockton and picked up seven loads in Sacramento. Engines 3418, 3014, 3258, and 3267 were accelerating the 43 loads and 19 empties, 5,025 tons, out of Pleasant Grove (mp156) after meeting Amtrak 11.

BOROR (a ballast train) was being put together in Oroville. It would depart at 1150AM and run to Elsey with engines 3500 and 3705.
MINPZ left Oroville at 655AM with 31 loads and 31 empties, 3,816 tons. It went into the siding at Pulga (mp240) to meet Amtrak 11 and let the OANPZ run around it. Engines 3774, MP6051, and 2508 had just blasted out of tunnel 32 and were crossing the bridge at the Keddie wye.

OANPZ with engines 3782, SP7469, and 2421 was making a long left hand curve as it swung around Williams Loop near Spring Garden (mp296). It departed Oroville at 730AM and met Amtrak 11 at Poe.
NPST left North Platte at 745AM on the 5th with 61 loads and 12 empties, 6,423 tons. It picked up 10 loads of wheat for Salt Lake City at Big Springs (mp354) and another load at Julesburg. Engine 3748 died at Sneed (mp396) because of low water. It left Cheyenne at 355PM with 64 loads and 19 empties, 7,154 tons. It picked up more loads at Rawlins and engine 2897 died coming into Green River. It let the CSLAZ run around it at Granger and set out engines 2897 and 3748 at Salt Lake City. It departed at 200PM yesterday, picked up six loads at Gerlach (mp438), and set out four loads at Reno Jct. It had been held in Portola since 540AM waiting for a maintenance window to open in the valley. It was now dashing out of Blairsden (mp310) with engines 3655, 3414, 3382, and 3911 pulling 65 loads and 19 empties, 7,448 tons. It would meet the OANPZ and MINPZ at Sloat (mp302).

SCST with engines 2465 and 3277 left Winnemucca at 210AM, picked up and set out at Gerlach, Herlong, Reno Jct., and Hawley. It was making a hasty exit from Portola with 29 loads and 21 empties, 3,728 tons, and would meet the OANPZ and MINPZ at Blairsden.
