Some of the prettiest scenery in southern Arizona is just east of Tucson. After the El Paso and Southwestern was absorbed into the SP, a connecting track was added west of Mescal, AZ. This gave the SP double track into Tucson. The original SP is used as the eastbound main and the EPSW became the westbound main. Extra 6606 east waits near Mescal as extra 8748 west (train GSLAF) swings north to reach the original EPSW trackage. |
