Engine 859 rolls passed the old station at Quanah (milepost 192) on January 11, 1980. Oddly enough, the segment from Estelline to Wichita Falls was equipped with CTC. I think this was installed during the early 50s to handle the large number of cattle trains the FW&D was handling from West Texas to either a connection with the MKT at Wichita Falls or to the stockyards in Fort Worth. The line from Estelline to Lubbock was completed in 1928. Quanah was named after Comanche Chief Quanah Parker in 1884.
I was beginning to lose my light as Extra 7085 West barreled through town. It was time to pack up and head home as the weather was turning progressively colder.
