To shorten the route for traffic between Dallas and San Antonio, the Southern Pacific cobbled together a section of the San Antonio & Aransas Pass from Flatonia to Giddings, acquired the Hearne & Brazos Valley Railway between Hearne and Stone City (16 miles south of Hearne), and built a line to connect Stone City to Giddings in 1913. This segment of the railroad was called the Dalsa (Dallas San Antonio) line and shortened the distance between these points by 140 miles. The section from Hearne to Giddings was dark territory until CTC was installed in 1980.
The Blue Streak Merchandise (train symbol BSMFF) ran as train 46 from Corsicana to Hearne and now as train 45 is passing the little depot at Caldwell on December 14, 1977. In the back ground is engine 2756, the power for the local. Disk 100
