Train 148 (Extra 3121 East) has come across the single track section and is getting back on double track at Colton on June 4, 1978. Coupled behind the caboose are helper engines 3089 and 3103. The units will stay with the train all the way down to Helper to provide additional dynamic braking. Colton is at an elevation of 7,100 feet. In 1909 the railroad added a second track between Helper and Castle Gate, and another five miles of second track between Kyune and Colton. Disk 32
